Woolpert, Inc. is hiring a Senior Roadway Design Technical Expert to join our Transportation Team in Ohio. You will lead complex roadway and transportation projects, provide design guidance to project managers, and train staff across disciplines.

Proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroStation and ORD is required. The role requires an 8+ year background in roadway design, a Professional Engineer license, and eligibility to obtain an Ohio license within six months if licensed elsewhere.

Responsibilities

• Design concept, schematic and preliminary roadway layouts; select optimal intersections.
• Lead complex roadway/ transportation projects with multi-modal scope.
• Direct engineering tasks: highway/street design, alignments, roundabout design, drainage and signing.
• Prepare preliminary/final design documents, cost estimates and bid docs per standards.
• Review design plans thoroughly and coordinate with teams.
• Perform designs using Civil 3D, ORD and MicroStation.
• Assist PMs with proposals, scope, schedule and budgets.

Woolpert is hiring a Senior Roadway Design Technical Expert tojoin our dynamic Transportation Team at one of our Ohio offices. This position reports to the Ohio Transportation Practice Lead and is responsible forresponsible for designs of roadway, bikeway, trail and pedestrian projects.

They are responsible for the conceptual and preliminary layout of complex roadway, highway and interchange designs. They may also lead designs of roadway, bikeway, trail and pedestrian projects. Additionally, they are looked to in order to provide guidance to Project Managers on designs as well as train other staff. The Senior Roadway Design Specialist is looked to for design expertise and the ability to see projects from a conceptual standpoint and make design calls that will impact the final design of the project. This role will work on a variety of transportation projects spanning multiple clients, states and project types. They will be exposed to and work closely with other design teams in bridges, traffic, site development, planning amongst others. The Engineering Design Team is quickly growing, allowing for accelerated growth and upward mobility opportunities.

What You Will Do:

• Be an expert in the design of concept, schematic and preliminary level plans. Be able to layout and design complex geometry and make recommendations for designs such as the best type of intersection for a particular project and geography.
• Lead design of complex roadway and transportation projects that require creative solutions. Projects include roadway, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, multi-modal transportation or transportation planning.
• Direct engineering design tasks such as highway and street design, roadway alignments, roundabout design, roadway grading and modeling, curb ramp design, signing and pavement plan, maintenance of traffic, storm drainage.
• Use local and federal roadway standards to prepare preliminary and final design documents, cost estimates, and bid documents.
• Perform detailed review of design plans and supporting documents.
• Perform designs using software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
• Assist Project Managers in the writing of proposals as well as preparing scope, schedule and budget of projects

What You Will Bring:

• Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical design field.
• A minimum of 8+ years of professional experience required, 15+ years preferred. This is an expert level position, so a solid background in design is required.
• Must be a licensed PE
• If licensed in another state, the ability to obtain a license in Ohio within 6 months.
• Ability to lead design as well as allocate work to others.
• Expertise in Roadway, Highway, Trail, Bikeway/Pedestrian and/or Roadway Drainage design.
• Expertise in Civil 3D and/or MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Experience with ODOT, INDOT, PennDOT, FDOT, TxDOT is a plus.
• Ability and desire to mentor design staff.
• Possess strong organizational skills to successfully manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Ability to work across disciplines and coordinate with other firms on projects

Pay Range

$139,200 — $174,000 USD
