Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site field inspector to support transportation construction projects across multiple locations. You will conduct inspections, assess contractor work, review reports, and ensure compliance with project plans and quality control procedures.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and at least 2 years of related experience, with certifications in earthwork, asphalt, or concrete if required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET/ACI may be required by client or jurisdiction.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency depends on duties and project demands.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of day-to-day work by the contractor; review daily reports, inspect QC procedures and material testing, and verify conformance with QC Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to contract; measure quantities and may perform sampling or in‑place testing of soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt.
