This Opportunity

WSP is initiating a search for Roadway and Structural Materials Engineers to join our Sacramento, Oakland, and Los Angeles offices!

Your Impact

• Coordinate and communicate with the Resident Engineer, construction contractors, suppliers and vendors on roadway and structural materials issues for construction projects throughout California.
• Create and manage quality control/assurance programs for roadway and structural materials.
• Assist in conducting meetings with appropriate project personnel to identify materials related issues and recommend solutions consistent with project plans and specifications.
• Ensure all Quality Control Plans are reviewed and submitted on time, reviews inspection reports in a timely manner and complete written reports of reviews.
• Assist in anticipating and resolving any issues associated with material source inspection and QA activities and help support effective materials management for construction projects.
• Visit job sites, fabrication and manufacturing shops as needed to ensure adequate QC/QA measures are employed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline or prior civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and project work-related issues.
  • Construction knowledge and some site experience, transportation and commercial projects
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Travel in and out-of-state, up to 20% depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Experience with State DOT or Large Design/Build Construction Company
  • Certified Welding Inspector certification and/or Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Level II certification

Compensation
Expected Salary: $93,700- $136,620

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
