Job description

We are seeking a professional to review Individual Life and Health insurance referrals to evaluate risk assessments and make recommendations, to detect and prevent fraud risk, to review Department of Insurance inquiries and Regulatory tasks with Individual Underwriting leaders and coordinate responses back to Compliance and to conduct contestable claim reviews to determine material misrepresentation and coordinate with Claims on findings. This evaluation process includes working with a team of Senior level underwriters conducting background checks, medical record reviews, or consult on questions as it relates to specific cases or guidelines. (This underwriter role is not a production role). This role involves knowledge of Individual Life and Health medical/financial/all Underwriting guidelines, as well as knowledge on the various underwriting tools, requirements and processes available for use within Individual Underwriting. Depending on experience, this position will be filled as an Underwriter III, IV or V.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Compensation (Levels have variable responsibilities and qualifications), plus annual bonus opportunity.
    • Underwriter III: $25.00 - $35.00 (Hourly), plus annual bonus opportunity.
    • Underwriter IV: $84,500 - $100,000 (Annual Salary), plus annual bonus opportunity.
    • Underwriter V: $97,000 - $120,000 (Annual Salary), plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Manage multiple concurrent tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independently gather and analyze requirements for all risk team related and compliance reviews, ensuring decisions align with company guidelines.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, asking questions for clarification and recommending solutions or best practices.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing, delivering excellent customer service and building internal and external relationships.
  • Contribute to the exploration of new ideas and improvements to current processes, leveraging industry technologies and tools for better efficiency and productivity.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Ability to make sound, logical decisions and justify them effectively.
  • Strong focus on accuracy and precision in tasks and decisions.
  • Skilled in creative problem-solving and applying innovative solutions.
  • Strong aptitude in mathematics and proficiency with various software tools, including Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

  • History of providing team leadership and mentorship.
  • Industry Courses: LOMA 280/281; LOMA 290/291; LOMA 311 and either LOMA UND 386 or enrollment in ALU 1.
  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience in the insurance industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, and/or related field; or equivalent experience in insurance industry.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of life insurance experience.
