The Dangerous Goods (DG) team is looking for a motivated Project Manager with strong regulatory experience, operational knowledge, logistics experience, and a hands-on passion to dive-deep into processes to support Amazon’s growth in a safe environment for customers, partners, and associates.

Working across procurement teams, transportation services, delivery experience, returns and re-commerce, technology, environmental, storage, legal, public policy, and other relevant internal teams at a global scale, this Project Manager will ensure the safety of our associates and transportation partners by delivering innovative solutions for the safe and compliant transportation of DG, redefining industry best practices and standards, and safely enabling an ever-changing borderless business model.

This Project Manager will be required to plan and execute DG policies, controls, and processes to ensure safe and compliant transportation of DG across a global supply chain. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, transportation service providers, consultants and regulators, this role will be responsible for driving safety and compliance across customer deliveries and reverse logistics, enabling new selection, and expanding business and transportation models. This Project Manager will need to develop accurate and relevant metric-driven analysis to foster continuous improvement and step-function innovation that will enhance our internal and external customer experience.

Candidate must be seated in one of the listed corporate locations in the requisition.

Must have the ability to travel at least 25% of the time.

Must have previous experience as a shipper of dangerous goods.

Key job responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement projects across global teams, ensuring Amazon is the leader transportation safety for non-inventory goods
• Manage a portfolio of projects aimed and building a best-in-class Dangerous Goods transportation system
• Drive process development and deployment for compliant transshipment of non-inventory sites throughout the Amazon network both domestically and internationally
• Convert large and complex projects into manageable pieces to deliver iterative improvements while focusing on longer-term, large-scale deliverables
• Build collaborative relationships with leaders across regions, departments and business units
• Refine existing program processes in order to more efficiently track and prioritize issues to enable the team to scale their work
• Provide input to technology teams to improve PO pre-screening, classification, and transportation restrictions as appropriate
• Anticipate project bottlenecks, manage escalations, make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus operational or technical constraints
• Audit Amazon nodes , and contracted 3rd party service providers receiving, storing, and shipping non-inventory items by developing mechanisms to insure compliance
• Able to interpret 49CFR and IATA regulations to provide recommendations on new business opportunities, and identify mechanisms to improve compliance and safety in current DG operations

The successful candidate will possess the ability to work across senior levels of leadership in multiple organizations to align on processes and proposed controls on a global scale while delivering high-quality work on time. This Risk Manager will demonstrate excellent judgment and instincts in decision-making, and proactively and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s businesses, fulfillment models, 3rd party logistics providers, and relevant technologies. Successful candidates will be able to clearly communicate regulatory requirements to stakeholders to further develop business requirements documents.

Basic Qualifications

• 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
• Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
• Master's degree or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
