Sentara Health Plan is hiring a Senior Underwriter for a remote role. The position is full-time and permanent (40 hours) with opportunities to work remotely across participating states.

The Senior Underwriter will provide expert underwriting guidance, mentor junior staff, and support high-profile cases and RFPs. Collaboration with Sales, Actuarial, and Leadership is essential, along with contributing to process improvements and training initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Health Plan experience preferred.

Status: Full-time, permanent position (40 hours)
Location: Remote are opportunities available in the following states: This role applies deep expertise in claims analysis, actuarial concepts, and funding arrangements, including proficiency in both Fully Insured and Self-Funded underwriting, as well as market dynamics, to develop sound pricing with limited or complex data.
The Senior Underwriter serves as a mentor and subject-matter expert for Underwriters and Trainees, supports high-profile cases and RFPs, and collaborates with Sales, Actuarial, and Leadership. This position also contributes to process improvement, training development, and underwriting strategy.

The base pay range for full-time employment is $95,139.20 - $142,084.80 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full-time colleague working 2,080 hours annually.
