Job summary
Sentara Health Plan is hiring a Senior Underwriter - Remote to apply deep expertise in claims analysis, actuarial concepts, and funding arrangements across Fully Insured and Self-Funded programs. This full-time role offers remote work with opportunities across multiple states.
You will mentor underwriters and trainees, support high-profile cases and RFPs, and collaborate with Sales, Actuarial, and Leadership to influence underwriting strategy and process improvements. Bachelor's degree required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a health plan or related field.
- Experience in health insurance underwriting and risk assessment.
- Proven ability to mentor others and lead complex cases.
Responsibilities

Sentara Health Plan is currently hiring a Senior Underwriter - Remote!
Status: Full-time, permanent position (40 hours)
Location: Remote are opportunities available in the following states: This role applies deep expertise in claims analysis, actuarial concepts, and funding arrangements, including proficiency in both Fully Insured and Self-Funded underwriting, as well as market dynamics, to develop sound pricing with limited or complex data.
The Senior Underwriter serves as a mentor and subject-matter expert for Underwriters and Trainees, supports high-profile cases and RFPs, and collaborates with Sales, Actuarial, and Leadership. This position also contributes to process improvement, training development, and underwriting strategy.
