Senior Risk and Patient Safety Consultant
Overview

Premier Insurance provides management services to American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG (AEIX), an excess professional liability reciprocal risk retention group, and operates as an insurance brokerage providing products and services to healthcare entities and providers nationwide.

The purpose of this position is to expand the ability of Premier Insurance to develop risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement offerings for AEIX member organizations to improve patient care and reduce liability exposure. The position is dedicated to supporting the clinical quality, patient safety, and risk management programs of AEIX member organizations. With a primary focus on service, innovation, and client satisfaction, the Consultant must be able to assess the specific needs of assigned members and collaboratively develop effective offerings and services to address those needs. The Consultant will utilize a data-driven approach to proactively impact the operations of member organizations by driving improvements in patient safety and quality improvement focused on decreasing risk exposures.

The Consultant also supports AEIX governance activities by providing resources and reports to governance committees and attending governance and candidate marketing meetings. The Consultant will develop and provide educational seminars, including coordinating speakers relating to existing and emerging risk management issues, conduct on-site risk assessments, complete research requests, and assist with the design and implementation of quality improvement projects for AEIX members to enable the sharing of best practices in the provision of healthcare services. The Consultant is expected to participate in professional association activities to remain up to date on best-in-class industry developments and standards and to raise visibility and promote the services and capabilities of AEIX and Premier Insurance.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility #1 – 60%

  • Provide ongoing clinical risk management services on behalf of AEIX members including, but not limited to:
  • Develop content and procure speakers for educational programs to meet Premier Insurance and AEIX annual Performance goals
  • Provide on-site risk assessments and risk education for AEIX members
  • Support and assist with the annual AEIX Awards & Grants program for providing recognition of outstanding quality and safety programs, including staffing the governance subcommittee responsible for reviewing applications and determining winners
  • Provide research and draft advisory opinions regarding questions posed by AEIX members, supporting expert responses with industry standards and publications
  • Develop visibility of AEIX and Premier Insurance in national quality or risk management associations (e.g., ASHRM, NPSF, and/or AHRQ)
  • Assist, as needed, on AEIX or Premier quality or risk management projects

Responsibility #2 – 20%

  • Assist with the development and design of new clinical quality and risk management projects and other educational offerings with potential benefit to AEIX members and other Premier members, collaborating with senior leadership of Premier, Inc., Premier Insurance, and other business partners
  • Provide effective education and best practice presentations to AEIX members and to professional associations including, but not limited to American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), and its affiliated state chapters, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and by serving on related industry governing boards and committees to provide visibility for AEIX and Premier Insurance.

Responsibility #3 – 20%

  • Support the traditional risk management services offered to AEIX members via knowledge transfer, e.g., speaking and participating in industry conferences, writing articles for blogs, newsletters and/or national publications
  • Remain current with industry trends and improve self-knowledge through subscriptions to professional journals and attending industry education and professional events.
  • Undertake annual education to maintain clinical and/or professional licensure and certification

Working Conditions: Remote Travel Requirements: Travel 21-40% within the US. Sedentary work involves remaining stationary most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if movement is required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Premier’s compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier’s internal salary range for this role is $113,000 - $188,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
