Job summary

FlightWave in Torrance, CA is seeking a Staff RF Systems & Integration Engineer to own the performance of wireless communications end-to-end, spanning RF, embedded networking and real-world integration.

You will optimize range, throughput and latency, design antenna integration, lead field tests, and work cross-functionally with electrical, software and flight engineering teams to deliver robust, high‑reliability links in contested environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in RF systems, wireless communications, or related field.
• Hands-on experience integrating and optimizing wireless systems in real products.
• Experience with multi-node wireless systems or mesh/MANET-based radios.
• Experience in wireless networking fundamentals (IP-based systems, routing, latency/throughput).
• Experience debugging complex issues across RF hardware, software and networking.
• Practical antenna systems experience including gain, polarization, radiation patterns.
• Ability to mitigate RF losses and optimize placement/orientation on platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end communications system performance, including range, reliability, throughput, and latency.
• Integrate and optimize tactical radios, including band selection, power, and configuration tradeoffs.
• Design and improve mesh networking performance, including multi-hop routing stability.
• Develop systems for congested RF environments, including interference avoidance and link adaptation.
• Lead antenna selection and integration, including placement and radiation patterns.
• Diagnose and resolve issues across RF, hardware, firmware, and networking layers.
• Plan and execute field testing and translate results into improvements.
• Identify EMI/EMC issues and support FCC/system-level compliance.
• Collaborate across electrical, software, and flight engineering to drive system-level performance.
