Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant based in the United States.

The Senior Revenue Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606. This position offers the opportunity to manage complex customer contracts, evaluate non-standard revenue arrangements, and contribute to financial reporting accuracy. You will support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while maintaining robust accounting controls and documentation. Working cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, Legal, Billing, and operational teams, you will help resolve accounting challenges and strengthen revenue processes. You will also contribute to audit readiness, SOX compliance, and the integration of acquired businesses into existing accounting systems and policies. The role combines technical accounting expertise, analytical problem-solving, and continuous improvement in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This is a full-time, remote opportunity for an accounting professional seeking to make a meaningful impact on financial integrity and operational efficiency.

Accountabilities
  • Review customer contracts, amendments, renewals, and non-standard commercial arrangements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under U.S. GAAP and ASC 606.
  • Analyze complex revenue accounting matters, including contract modifications, variable consideration, performance obligations, and other technical accounting issues, and prepare supporting documentation and technical accounting memoranda.
  • Prepare and record monthly revenue-related journal entries, perform account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring revenue-related activities are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual revenue-related financial statement disclosures and footnotes, maintain accounting schedules, and conduct balance sheet, income statement, and revenue variance analyses.
  • Validate revenue-related information in ERP and financial reporting systems to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Legal, Billing, Customer Operations, FP&A, and other stakeholders to clarify contractual terms, resolve revenue recognition questions, and support business initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and improve revenue accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and processes to strengthen compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Execute and document SOX 404 controls, retain appropriate supporting evidence, and assist with internal and external financial statement audits by preparing analyses and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions by assessing revenue processes, evaluating customer contracts, aligning ERP systems, and implementing accounting policies for newly integrated businesses.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and improved reporting while monitoring new accounting guidance and evaluating its potential impact on revenue recognition practices.
  • Prepare management reports and ad hoc analyses related to revenue trends, forecasts, and operational initiatives, and contribute to additional projects and performance objectives as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline with a strong accounting focus.
  • At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with a concentration in technical revenue accounting within the software industry.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, including the ability to interpret complex customer contracts and determine appropriate revenue recognition treatments.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting schedules, and technical accounting documentation.
  • Familiarity with ERP and financial reporting systems, such as Oracle NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or comparable platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial data, investigate discrepancies, and produce accurate, well-supported reporting.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and responding to auditor requests; familiarity with SOX 404 compliance and public company accounting environments is preferred.
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, or progress toward obtaining one, is an advantage.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or business integrations is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with sound professional judgment when evaluating complex accounting matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting conclusions clearly and collaborate effectively with financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy, completeness, and high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and meet demanding month-end and quarter-end deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A dedicated, secure home workspace with reliable high-speed internet connectivity and the equipment needed to work remotely.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during peak business periods and travel occasionally, potentially up to 5% of the time, based on business needs.
Benefits
  • Annual base salary: $85,000–$105,000, with the final offer determined by experience, education, skills, certifications, and other relevant business factors.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
