Job summary

GFT is seeking a Resident Engineer for Roadway & Bridges to join our Construction Services Team in Chicago, IL. The role requires regular attendance at our Chicago office and will oversee construction management activities to ensure projects are on schedule, within budget, and compliant with safety and quality standards.

The successful candidate will conduct meetings, prepare schedules, observe construction, prepare reports and change orders, and perform constructability reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
• Professional Engineering License.
• IDOT Documentation Certification required.
• 10-hour OSHA Safety course.
• Experience with Primavera P6 preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Conducts and documents project meetings with clients.
• Prepares and monitors project schedules.
• Performs periodic construction observation and inspection.
• Possesses basic surveying interpretation skills.
• Prepares reports and correspondence.
• Prepares and checks quantities for measurement and payment purposes.
• Prepares construction payment applications.
• Negotiates and prepares construction change orders.
• Reviews submittals and other technical data.
• Proficient with construction management software for document management and scheduling.
• Performs constructability reviews and value engineering studies.
• Assists with Risk Management assessments.
• Prepares and monitors Quality Control and Assurance Plans.

Education

Bachelor’s in Engineering or Construction Management

Professional Engineering License

IDOT Documentation Certification

10-hour OSHA Safety course

Experience with Primavera P6

Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
