Your impact

At Jacobs, our Program Management and Construction Management teams help clients deliver complex infrastructure and facility projects that create lasting value for communities. As a Senior Resident Engineer (MEP), you’ll provide technical and construction leadership for large-scale projects, ensuring critical building systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project requirements, operational goals, and industry standards.

In this role, you'll oversee the construction, testing, commissioning, and turnover of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems while coordinating contractors, consultants, and stakeholders throughout project delivery. Your expertise will help ensure building systems perform as intended, support facility operations, and contribute to successful project outcomes from construction through occupancy.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the administration and oversight of large-scale construction contracts from construction through closeout and occupancy.
  • Coordinate contractor activities to support successful project delivery and alignment with project requirements.
  • Evaluate construction progress and quality to ensure conformance with approved schedules, budgets, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Serve as the lead field representative for MEP systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and associated building support systems.
  • Oversee installation, integration, testing, startup, commissioning, and turnover of MEP systems.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with design intent, applicable codes, life safety requirements, and project specifications.
  • Review MEP shop drawings, product data, requests for information (RFIs), substitutions, and field changes for technical compliance and constructability.
  • Coordinate resolution of complex MEP design issues, system conflicts, and field installation challenges among contractors, designers, and stakeholders.
  • Review bid packages and design documents for constructability, coordination, completeness, and clarity; recommend improvements as needed.
  • Review construction documents for alignment with approved scope, schedule, budget, and operational requirements.
  • Support client teams and project managers during pre-bid, procurement, and pre-construction activities.
  • Review and approve contractor progress payments, pay applications, and supporting documentation.
  • Manage and track field directives, design clarifications, change requests, and change orders.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities for all MEP systems and coordinate with design consultants and quality management personnel.
  • Establish and lead construction coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, commissioning agents, and client representatives.
  • Review and manage construction schedule updates and assess impacts to critical MEP activities and project milestones.
  • Monitor commissioning schedules and coordinate system testing, balancing, startup, training, and turnover activities.
  • Verify that operations and maintenance documentation, warranties, training materials, and as-built documentation are completed and delivered.
  • Coordinate utility tie-ins, shutdowns, outages, and interface activities with utility providers and facility operations teams.
  • Verify contractor compliance with approved safety plans and quality control programs.
  • Coordinate contractor laydown areas, field offices, equipment staging, and site logistics.
  • Lead project closeout activities and facilitate smooth transition to occupancy and facility operations.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to Resident Engineers, Assistant Resident Engineers, Project Engineers, Inspectors, and other field staff.
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in construction contract administration and field inspection of construction projects.
  • Experience serving as a Resident Engineer on a relevant construction project.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing installation and construction of major MEP systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection, building automation, and life safety systems.
  • Experience managing testing, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities for complex building systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR/CMR).
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating contractor safety plans and quality control plans.
  • Experience reviewing and overseeing document control plans and project procedures manuals.
