Job summary

STV Incorporated is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer / Construction Manager to lead transit and rail construction management in the Chicago region. You will guide project delivery, mentor teams, and foster client relationships while driving safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

You will oversee multi-disciplinary staff, coordinate with clients and designers, review plans and contracts, and contribute to business development and market growth in the transit sector.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in resident engineering or construction management, focused on transit/rail.
  • Leads complex construction projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, project controls, scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Excellent communication and client/contractor relationship skills.
  • Experience supporting business development with proposals and pursuits.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; Primavera P6 experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact between clients, contractors, designers and stakeholders.
  • Lead delivery of transit/rail construction projects meeting quality, safety, schedule and budget.
  • Mentor multidisciplinary teams including inspectors, safety, quality, and controls staff.
  • Facilitate construction meetings and resolve project challenges.
  • Coordinate staffing with Construction Management leadership; ensure safety compliance.
  • Review plans, specs, contracts; interpret technical documents.
  • Conduct site visits; review inspection reports; guide project teams.
  • Evaluate contractor schedules and monitor contract compliance.
  • Oversee project management activities; manage change orders and invoicing.
  • Ensure QA processes; provide QA training; support business development.
  • Build strong client relationships; pursue project pursuits and market growth.

**Senior Resident Engineer / Construction Manager (Transit & Rail)****Location: Chicago, IL** STV is seeking an experienced **Senior Resident Engineer / Construction Manager** to lead and grow our Transit & Rail Construction Management practice in the Chicago region. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a construction professional who enjoys managing complex infrastructure projects, building strong client relationships, mentoring teams, and helping drive business growth.In this role, you will oversee the successful delivery of major transit and rail projects while serving as a trusted advisor to clients, contractors, and project teams. You'll have the opportunity to shape project outcomes, develop future leaders, and contribute to the continued growth of STV's transit practice. **What You'll Do*** Serve as the primary point of contact between clients, contractors, designers, and project stakeholders.* Lead the delivery of transit and rail construction projects, ensuring quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.* Manage and mentor multidisciplinary project teams, including field inspectors, office engineers, safety managers, quality managers, project controls specialists, and subconsultants.* Facilitate construction meetings and provide leadership in resolving project challenges.* Coordinate project staffing and team assignments in partnership with Construction Management department leadership.* Promote and enforce safety standards in accordance with client and industry requirements.* Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.* Conduct site visits, review inspection reports, and provide guidance to project teams.* Evaluate contractor schedules and monitor compliance with contract requirements.* Oversee project management activities in alignment with STV and client expectations.* Manage contract administration, including change orders, invoicing, and project documentation.* Ensure quality assurance processes are followed and provide quality-related training to project staff.* Build and maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts.* Participate in project pursuits, proposal development, teaming strategies, and market growth initiatives within the transit and rail sector. **What We're Looking For****Required Qualifications*** 10+ years of experience in resident engineering and/or construction management, with a focus on transit and rail projects.* Proven experience leading complex construction projects and multidisciplinary teams.* Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, scheduling, and contract administration.* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, contractors, and project teams.* Experience supporting business development activities, including proposals, pursuits, and client engagement.* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software, including Oracle Primavera P6. **Preferred Qualifications*** Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or the ability to obtain Illinois registration through reciprocity.* Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.* Experience working with major public transportation agencies, commuter rail systems, or transit authorities. **Why Join STV?**At STV, you'll have the opportunity to work on impactful transit and rail infrastructure projects that help connect communities and improve mobility.
