Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer in Phoenix, AZ to read and interpret construction drawings, maintain daily records, and ensure contract compliance. You will supervise junior staff and participate in progress meetings under a Design Project Manager.

Requires a PE license, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management, and 10 years of related experience; strong communication and problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 10 years of related experience in construction including estimating, bidding, POs, subcontracts, scheduling and field engineering.
• Professional Engineer license (PE) recognized by local licensing board.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specs; identify discrepancies or conflicts.
• Maintain accurate daily records of contractor activities, labor, equipment and materials used.
• Review construction materials for contract compliance; track quantities and develop pay estimates.
• Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings; supervise junior staff and inspectors.
• Develop record documentation for engineer review and project closeout; assist with audits.

In the role of Senior Resident Engineer, we'll count on you to:

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
• Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
• Review construction materials for Contract compliance
• Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
• Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
• Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
• Identify nonconforming work, develop project punch lists and maintain until corrected
• Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
• Assist with project audit/closeout
• Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager
• Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Department of Transportation projects
• Ability to interpret construction schedules
• Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
• 10 years related experience in various aspects of construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Bluebeam, estimating & scheduling software, and web-based document collaboration software
• Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
