Job summary

HDR is seeking a Resident Engineer in Las Vegas to contribute to project delivery and contract compliance. You will read and interpret drawings, track daily activities, and develop pay estimates while liaising with field teams and clients to ensure quality and progress.

The role requires a PE license, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and strong communication skills. HDR offers a broad benefits package and a culture focused on employee ownership and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Professional Engineer license recognized by the licensing board.
  • Experience in construction engineering; proficiency in MS Office and scheduling tools.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain daily records of contractor activities, labor, equipment and materials.
  • Review materials for contract compliance; track quantities and develop pay estimates.
  • Attend and chair construction progress meetings; supervise junior staff.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review and assist with project closeout.

In the role of Resident Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
  • Review construction materials for Contract compliance
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
  • Assist with project audit/closeout
  • Work under general supervision of a more-senior Resident Project Representative or Design Project Manager
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience with a consulting firm
  • Experience with Department of Transportation projects
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
  • Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
  • Previous construction engineering experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Estimating & CPM Scheduling Software, and web-based document collaboration software.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
