Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to lead on-site construction oversight for municipal infrastructure, water, wastewater, and capital projects in New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley. You will manage field staff, coordinate with contractors and design teams, and ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery in compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

The role requires a NY-licensed PE with 10 years in senior resident engineering or comparable leadership on large projects,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; NY PE license preferred.
• 10 years as Resident Engineer or similar on large capital projects.
• Experience managing field staff and multi-project oversight.
• Strong leadership and communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day construction management and resident engineering.
• Serve as liaison between contractors, clients, regulators, and design teams.
• Review construction plans, RFIs, shop drawings for constructability.
• Mentor field staff; ensure inspection, documentation, reporting, contracts.
• Oversee daily inspection reporting and deliverables.
• Administer contracts, change orders, payments, directives.
• Monitor safety, schedule, budget, quality; address issues to meet objectives.

This role is responsible for leading on-site construction oversight, managing field staff, coordinating with contractors and design teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with client and regulatory requirements.Role accountabilities:Lead day-to-day construction management and resident engineering activities for complex water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure projects.Serve as the primary liaison between contractors, clients, regulatory agencies, and design teams throughout project execution.Review construction plans, specifications, RFIs, shop drawings, and proposed design changes to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.Manage and mentor construction management field staff, providing oversight of inspections, project documentation, reporting, and contract administration activities.Oversee daily inspection reporting, recordkeeping, correspondence, and preparation of project deliverables in accordance with client requirements.Administer construction contracts, including review and negotiation of change orders, contractor payment applications, and field directives.Monitor contractor performance, safety compliance, quality, schedule adherence, and overall project execution, proactively addressing issues to maintain project objectives.Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, permits, environmental requirements, and agency standards while fostering a strong safety culture across project teams.Qualifications & Experience:Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be consideredProfessional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New York10 years of experience serving as a Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or in a similar construction management leadership role on large capital improvement projectsPreferred Qualifications:Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects, field teams, and stakeholder relationships in a fast-paced environmentLeadership, communication, and relationship-management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teamsProficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPointDemonstrated commitment to safety, quality, client service, and delivering successful project outcomesWhy Arcadis?We can only achieve our goals when everyone is empowered to be their best.
