Expected compensation: 99.95 USD Per Hour
HireArt is helping TRI hire a Senior Research Software Engineer - Human Behavior and Carbon Neutrality that will partner across disciplines to create new interactive prototypes and support human subjects research data collection.
In this role, you will build custom web apps (front and back end) and the back end for mobile applications (iOS, Android), and will also support A/B testing and AI/ML model training and deployment.
We're looking for someone with 5+ years of software development experience in a research setting, including expertise in AWS, FastAPI, JavaScript, and Python.
As a Senior Research Software Engineer - Human Behavior and Carbon Neutrality, you will:
- Work with scientists and engineers to design and build systems that support research goals.
- Assist research teams in developing their project's schedule.
- Iteratively develop user interfaces that showcase research concepts.
- Interface with other engineering teams at TRI to coordinate software development, utilize AWS infrastructure, and ensure software meets information security requirements.
- Manage your time across projects.
- Grow with other research software engineers on the HCAl team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience in a research setting (academic or industry)
- AWS experience (e.g., ECS, S3, CDK/Cloudformation, Sagemaker, DynamoDB)
- Experience building APIs using Python frameworks, including FastAPI
- Experience with front/back end web development, including Javascript and Python
- Experience with machine learning libraries
- A prototyping mindset - building solutions that are "good enough" to answer a steady stream of scientific questions
- Ability to work independently in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment, with excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills; comfortable receiving and incorporating constructive feedback

Commitment: This is a full-time, 9-month contract position staffed via HireArt. This position will be remote with preference given to candidates based in the Bay Area who are open to working onsite in Los Altos, CA.
