Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to our direct client, an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company in Los Altos, CA.

Title: Senior Research Software Engineer - Human Behavior and Carbon Neutrality (Contract)

Pay Rate: $99.95/hr (W-2) plus a comprehensive benefit plan (see below)

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00am-5:00pm PST, remote with preference given to Bay Area candidates

Duration: 9 months with potential for extension

Job description: Partner across disciplines to create new interactive prototypes and support human subjects research data collection. In this role, you will build custom web apps (front and back end) and the back end for mobile applications (iOS, Android), and will also support A/B testing and AI/ML model training and deployment.

Responsibilities:

- Work with scientists and engineers to design and build systems that support research goals.

- Assist research teams in developing their project's schedule.

- Iteratively develop user interfaces that showcase research concepts.

- Interface with other engineering teams to coordinate software development, utilize AWS infrastructure, and ensure software meets information security requirements.

- Manage your time across projects.

- Grow with other research software engineers on the HCAl team.

Requirements:

- 5+ years of software development experience in a research setting (academic or industry)

- AWS experience (e.g., ECS, S3, CDK/Cloudformation, Sagemaker, DynamoDB)

- Experience building APIs using Python frameworks, including FastAPI

- Experience with machine learning libraries

- A prototyping mindset - building solutions that are "good enough" to answer a steady stream of scientific questions

- Ability to work independently in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment, with excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills; comfortable receiving and incorporating constructive feedback
