Fred Hutch is recruiting a Senior Research Pathologist to lead/direct the pathology (anatomic and molecular) components of the Sloan Precision Oncology Institute. The position is for a full-time, on-site, research member specializing primarily in solid tumor Anatomic Pathology and relevant aspects of Molecular Diagnostics.

The primary role for this position entails establishing and maintaining a robust research pathology core infrastructure and delivering research pathology services for Fred Hutch with a particular focus on Precision Oncology. This involves assessing tissue specimens, creating tissue biobanks with deep clinical and molecular annotation, interpreting immunohistochemical and molecular pathology studies, and providing expertise, advise and input for research projects with relevance to precision oncology. The pathologist will also participate in organizing the rapid autopsy program as a shared resource within the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children's NCI-supported Cancer Consortium.

The role requires effective collaboration with a diverse group of researchers across Fred Hutch, contributing to both basic discovery and translational studies. The position is primarily a support role and is fully funded through institutional resources, though candidates can expect to have independence to pursue their own specific research questions and participate in collaborative studies supported by research grants.

This position is full time on campus.






Responsibilities




    Organizing, constructing and managing an oncology biobank
  • Providing histopathology expertise to investigators
  • Developing a digital image repository
  • Designing, performing and analyzing molecular assays
  • Organizing and participating in the rapid autopsy shared resource
  • The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to carry out investigator-initiated research, write and contribute to manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations, and collaborate with other researchers in the NCI supported Fred Hutch comprehensive cancer center
  • Other duties as assigned





Qualifications




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD or equivalent degree in medicine
  • Anatomic or laboratory medicine residency or equivalent - US or International
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in anatomic pathology clinical practice or research in private practice, academic institutions or in private industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of pathology with an emphasis in oncology
  • Experience conducting autopsies
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry
  • Experience with technologies used in laboratory research and clinical care, including molecular assays (e.g. PCR, Nextgen sequencing, clinical genomics/genetics)
  • Technical experience includes:
    • Histopathological diagnostics related to solid tumor oncology
    • Providing education relating to anatomic pathology
    • Not essential but ideal: expertise/experience with mouse models of oncogenesis
    • Not essential but ideal: experience with correlative human immunology analyses
    • Not essential but ideal: experience/expertise in molecular diagnostics including clinical genomic assessments of oncogenic mutations/copy alterations derived from molecular profiling assays
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and reliable record-keeping
  • Ability to design and execute protocols, and work independently including experimental troubleshooting
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with other lab members and productive interactions with collaborators
  • Applicants should be highly motivated physician/scientists

The annual base salary range for this position is from $178,006.40 to $296,628.80 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
