At the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS), science becomes tangible. The CCTS supports researchers, practitioners, and community members as they join forces to investigate the best systems and methods for bringing scientific discoveries to the doctor's office. Through training and career development programs, the CCTS also builds the next generation of translational researchers.

The Clinical Research Unit is a service center for the entire institution, conducting clinical trials across various disciplines with 180 open trials. We also have upcoming studies requiring coordination, lab sample processing, storage, shipment, and assistance with lab process feasibility.

Position Summary:

This role involves direct nursing services including patient assessments, lab draws, infusions, IVs, vital signs, and administration of oral medications.

It also includes coordinating, directing, and implementing nursing care within research projects, ensuring compliance with protocols.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Coordinate and administer nursing care within research protocols, overseeing daily operations and staff.
  2. Conduct physical assessments and educate research participants about study objectives, benefits, and risks.
  3. Maintain contacts with patients, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and other parties to support recruitment and study support.
  4. Assist in developing and implementing research protocols.
  5. Collect, log, verify data; interpret results; produce reports, presentations, publications; contribute to scientific papers and grant proposals.
  6. Keep investigators and administrators informed of progress through reports and communications.
  7. Maintain inventories of drugs and supplies.
  8. Identify problems and suggest procedural improvements.
  9. Manage support staff, technicians, and assistants to ensure quality and protocol adherence.
  10. Potentially manage HR activities like recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Registered Nurse (State of Texas)

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing with three (3) years of related experience, or an Associate's degree with five (5) years of related experience.

Minimum Experience:

Varies based on education level.

Preferred Experience:

  • Research study experience, including direct nursing services, developing EPIC smart phrases, and following protocols and safety standards.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.

Security Sensitive:

This position may be security sensitive under Texas law.

Residency Requirement:

Must reside and work in Texas permanently.
