Job summary

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) seeks a Senior Research Fellow to provide scientific, analytical, and technical support across research programs, fermentation studies, and commercial lab services.

The role emphasizes ensuring data integrity, coordinating with researchers and clients, and advancing analytical methods and QA/QC procedures within the NCERC facility.

Qualifications

• Laboratory testing and analytical responsibilities in fermentation and related research.
• Quality assurance and quality control activities for lab testing and pilot plant trials.
• Support for NCERC research studies, pilot plants, fermentation projects, and commercial testing.
• Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods using HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, DLS and fluorescence microscopy.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment with calibration and basic troubleshooting.
• Ensure data integrity and proper documentation for sponsors and clients.
• Coordinate with researchers and engineers on sampling, testing schedules, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical, biological, fermentation-related, and other laboratory analyses using established methodologies.
• Prepare samples, reagents, standards, and materials required for laboratory testing.
• Record, evaluate, and interpret laboratory and experimental results.
• Identify data anomalies, inconsistencies, or testing concerns and verify results.
• Assist with the preparation of scientific reports and technical summaries.
• Maintain data integrity and traceability of data generated for sponsors and clients.
