Job summary

Zebra Technologies is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to drive invention and innovation in our Priority markets from Morris Plains, NJ. You will develop new technologies, lead experiments, and translate breakthroughs into strategic growth opportunities.

The role emphasizes collaboration, patent process involvement, and practical prototyping. You will work onsite Monday through Friday, contribute to cross-functional teams, and help shape advanced sensor and wireless solutions for real-world

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 10+ years of experience or a master’s with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience in Research and Development (R&D)
  • Electrical, Mechanical, Control or Systems Engineering or related field
  • Experience with wireless systems/protocols (BLE, WiFi, RFID, NFC, UWB)
  • Experience with microcontrollers and SoCs embedded processors

Responsibilities

  • Develops scoping experiments to demonstrate idea feasibility, summarize results and provide rationale for next steps
  • Develop appropriate experimentation and formulations, trials, testing and characterization requirements, analyses, and other tasks to support project needs.
  • Develop R&D experimental design, trials, testing and recommendations to support stakeholders and growth
  • Communicate invention disclosure process and engage with legal for patent filings, identify Trade Secrets opportunities
  • Maintain organized workspace and identify equipment or capability required for job execution

What We're Looking For

As a Senior Research Engineer you will drive invention and innovation. Deliver and shape differentiated offerings for company’s Priority markets. Develop new technologies and platforms and translate into new strategic growth opportunities. Highlight promising ways to reposition the business through disruptive breakthroughs.

Location- ***Role is required to be onsite in Morris Plains, NJ office (Mon-Fri)
  • Develops scoping experiments to demonstrate idea feasibility, summarize results and provide rationale for next steps
  • Develop appropriate experimentation and formulations, trials, testing and characterization requirements, analyses, and other tasks to support project needs. Provide recommendations for next steps
  • Develop appropriate R&D experimental design, trials, testing, recommendations to support other BU stakeholders and contribute to overall business improvements and growth
  • Communicating the invention disclosure submission process and engage appropriately with legal team for patent filings. Recommend and identify developments better captured as Trade Secrets
  • Maintain an organized and tidy workspace to promote efficiency and a safe environment . Identify and recommend specific equipment or capability required for job execution. Embrace and promote a diverse and inclusive culture
Required Qualifications
  • ​Bachelor's degree required with 10+ years of experience OR a master's degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Research and Development (R&D) experience
  • Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering, Systems Engineering, or experience in a related field
  • Experience in wireless systems/protocols (BLE, WiFi, RFID, NFC, UWB, etc)
  • Experience with microcontrollers and SoCs embedded processors
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience in circuit systematics- layout design and prototyping
  • Experience and familiar with programming languages; C, C++, Python and Firmware coding
  • Experience designing and developing prototypes and testing them for functionality
  • Smart sensor development-integration consumer experience
  • Capable of troubleshooting complex systems
  • Experience in systems integration (e.g., ensuring the cohesive operation of complex systems, bridging gaps between hardware, software, and network components and external services to design and implement innovative solutions)
  • Independent, Self-Starter, Curious, Problem Solver, Analytical, Collaborative, Detail oriented, Adaptable
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Pay Range

$96,800.00 - $145,200.00 Annual

Incentive Compensation

In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 10% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
