Job summary

Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass., is seeking a Senior Research Programmer/Analyst to support pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics research. You will translate questions into reproducible analyses using R, Python, SQL, and SAS, handling large longitudinal datasets from claims and EHR data.

You will collaborate with epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and clinicians, mentor junior staff, and contribute to scalable programming infrastructure across languages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant programming and data-analysis experience required; 5+ years preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in R and/or Python with data management and large datasets.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
• SAS experience strongly preferred; familiarity with SAS-based workflows is a significant advantage.
• Experience with healthcare data and longitudinal datasets recommended.

Responsibilities

• Support faculty in developing analytic datasets and conducting statistical analyses for pharmacoepidemiologic and health services research.
• Develop, validate, manage, analyze, and document large healthcare datasets including claims and EHR data.
• Translate research questions into efficient, reproducible programming workflows including data cleaning, transformation, and cohort construction.
• Apply code quality practices: version control, modular code, documentation to support reproducibility.
• Contribute to the division's programming environment across R, Python, SQL, and SAS, aligning with existing SAS infrastructure.
• Identify opportunities to develop reusable tools and improve computational efficiency across languages.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on multiple ongoing research projects.
• Mentor junior programmers/analysts and serve as a technical resource.
