Job summary

Astera Institute is seeking a Senior Research Associate or Scientist 1 to join our Polytope Bio residency, building and operating a high-throughput experimental platform that links frontier AI with real biology. You will design experiments in molecular biology and microbial engineering, develop DNA assembly workflows, and translate measurements into datasets for AI models.

Qualifications

• Hands-on molecular biology techniques and genetic engineering.
• Primer design, Golden Gate cloning, DNA assembly, plasmid construction.
• Library generation and analytical troubleshooting.
• Collaborative work with experimental biologists and AI researchers.
• Problem solving and rigorous data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute molecular biology and microbial engineering experiments to generate high-throughput data.
• Develop and optimize assays and workflows to increase throughput and data quality.
• Own research projects from design through execution, analysis, and documentation.
• Analyze experimental data with computational datasets to identify trends.
• Build robust laboratory protocols, workflows, and quality-control systems.
• Maintain laboratory operations and ensure a safe, productive environment.
