Job Summary

The Senior Research Analyst is a specialized research professional working with and under the Principal Investigator's (PI) direction. Responsibilities will include leading data collection efforts in wet and dry lab environments, designing and executing wet lab experiments, designing and implementing contemporary bioinformatics pipelines, developing and executing an analysis plan, completing analyses, and interpreting results. In addition to bringing quantitative expertise to the team and our ongoing projects, this individual will be the project manager of several ongoing studies. Responsibilities will include ensuring compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates, supporting the administrative, operational, and financial aspects of these awards, developing standard procedures and protocols to create a structure for project staff and collaborators, proactive problem solving, critically editing abstracts, presentations, reports, and manuscripts, and facilitating interactions with both study participants and project collaborators.

The Senior Research Analyst will work closely with a physician-scientist-led team of experienced research staff members (under the direction of Dr. Michael Drazer) on projects focused on rare blood cancer syndromes. Because this specialist will work closely with the wet and dry lab team members, we are looking for someone with formal quantitative training who is also comfortable and well-versed in wet lab techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop, and execute experimental wet and dry lab project plans.

  • Develop analysis plans for a diverse portfolio of research projects.

  • Lead and/or guide other staff members in collecting data and assisting with interpreting results. This will involve 'hands-on' work in the wet lab environment.

  • Train other staff in experimental methods and assist external collaborators with technical challenges or data collection.

  • Perform literature searches, as needed, to guide the analysis process and/or development of research products.

  • Maintain secure, shared files for off-site and on-site management of research instruments and study documents.

  • Ensure data quality assurance for all data collection for projects this individual leads.

  • Independently coordinate and oversee the execution of research projects, including 'managing up' a team of research scientists to keep multi-component projects moving forward.

  • Responsible for working knowledge and awareness of all project components and initiatives.

  • Facilitate and lead team and collaborator meetings.

  • Potential to assist with the development and execution of future grant proposals.

  • Manage Institutional Review Board processes.

  • Present research findings at staff meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences.

  • Oversee and keep track of multi-year R01-level budgets and build strong relationships with research-related post-awards teams.

  • Prepare annual and regular reports to the sponsor or funder (NIH, DOD, etc.).

  • Provide training and oversight to research support personnel, students, and volunteers.

  • Manage-up to PI or Multi-PI team to keep study progress on track.

  • Provide critical feedback or guidance to other study team members, as appropriate, based on grant-related and research-related expertise.

  • Solve a range of straightforward problems relating to the administration of the compliance, financial and other related aspects of studies.

  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

  • Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze the meaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.

  • Performs other related work as needed.
