Job description

Quick Take: Axios is a media organization dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. We're hiring a Senior Reporter to lead our daily Markets newsletter.

Why it Matters: Axios has built a newsroom of more than 150 talented journalists committed to providing our readers the most trustworthy information in the most efficient way possible. Reporting to our Managing Editor, Business & Markets, the Senior Markets Reporter will play a critical role in leading one of Axios’s largest and most-read newsletters.

  • Our Business desk excels in a crowded field, winning SABEW’s “Best Newsletter” honor two years in a row and featuring a nationally recognized staff who regularly contribute to cable news and national radio with insightful news and analysis.
  • The Markets Reporter will take their newsletter to new heights in scoops, analysis and insights that serve our readers.

Go Deeper: The role comes with a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Serving as lead reporter, writer and producer of the daily Markets newsletter
  • Writing insightful copy that helps a diverse audience of professional readers understand trends and future developments across stock, bond, currency, commodity and other financial markets
  • Generating, and collaborating on the generation of, charts and other data visualizations in the signature Axios style
  • Writing real-time and breaking market analysis — a subject matter expert who can be called on to explain what’s happening and why it all matters
  • Contributing markets-related insights as needed to newsletters throughout our newsroom

The Details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with a team of journalists.
  • Writing experience in a fast-paced, market-driven news environment.
  • Demonstrated experience conceptualizing big ideas and seeing them through.
  • Established sourcing across market types and disciplines (traders, technicians, fund managers, sell-side analysts, strategists, etc)
  • A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios.
  • Strong writing skills for both online and newsletter platforms, and the ability to translate stories across them.
  • Experience working across teams to produce quality content.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the digital and social media landscape.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $155,000 - $180,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.

What Axios brings to the table besides salary:

  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Robust PPO and High Deductible health insurance options on the Blue Cross Blue Shield network
  • Employer Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution for the high deductible health plan option
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Primary caregiver 12-week paid leave
  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays
  • One mental health day per quarter
  • Annual learning and development stipend
  • $100 monthly work-from-home stipend
  • Tele-mental health services through Headspace
  • OneMedical membership, including tele-health services
  • Personal health advocacy resources through HealthAdvocate
  • Inclusive fertility, hormonal health and family forming benefits through Carrot Fertility
  • Access to the Axios “Family Fund”, which was created to allow employees to request financial support when facing financial hardship or emergencies
  • Increased work flexibility for parents and caretakers
  • Virtual company-sponsored social events
  • A strong and positive work environment
  • A commitment to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture
