Job summary

ACES’ Reliability Services team in Raleigh, NC seeks a Senior Reliability Compliance Specialist to provide NERC O&P compliance oversight for internal workgroups and participate in mock audits and program reviews.

The role involves monitoring NERC Reliability Standards changes, supporting implementation of new standards, and advising Operations staff on compliance. Requires 5+ years in the power industry and a Bachelor’s or associate degree.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years in the power industry (NERC, operations, engineering, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret NERC Standards and communicate their impact clearly.
  • Experience supporting internal compliance programs and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of NERC O&P compliance for internal workgroups.
  • Support mock audits and program reviews for Member programs.
  • Monitor changes to NERC Reliability Standards and advise on impact.
  • Assist with regulatory research and ad-hoc compliance tasks.
  • Travel up to ~15% to meet ACES obligations.

Senior Reliability Compliance Specialist

This position is responsible for providing NERC O&P compliance oversight of ACES’ Internal Workgroups as a member of the Reliability Services team. Additional duties include supporting member mock audits and program reviews, monitoring NERC Reliability Standards changes, and supporting the implementation of newly applicable NERC Reliability Standards on an as needed basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of ACES’ compliance with NERC Operations and Planning (O&P) Reliability Standards. Oversight duties include but are not limited to:
    • Perform risk-based periodic internal assessments to ensure compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
    • Perform annual reviews of ACES internal compliance program documents.
    • Provide advisory support to ACES Operations Staff relating to NERC compliance.
    • Apply understanding of NERC compliance monitoring to proactively identify compliance issues/concerns and provide recommended resolution options to management.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and implement technologies to automate and streamline compliance activities and monitoring processes.
  • Assist with mock audits and program reviews of Member NERC Compliance Programs.
  • Perform ad-hoc reliability compliance regulatory research as needed.
  • Additional duties may periodically include:
    • Assist with developing project plans, project schedules, and project cost/hour estimates for mock audits, program reviews, and self-certification projects.
    • Monitoring NERC Standards Projects for potential changes to Reliability Standards.
    • Support implementation of newly applicable NERC Reliability Standards as needed.
    • Provide input and support to the strategic vision of the Reliability Services department.
  • Occasional travel will be required to meet the expectations and obligations of ACES’ Members, Customers, and Internal Workgroups (annual travel requirements ~15%).
  • Adheres to and is supportive of all ACES corporate policies and complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to NERC, FERC, and relevant state regulations as applicable to the position.
  • Any additional responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or applicable experience with an associate degree
  • 5+ years of work experience in the power industry (e.g. NERC Compliance, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, etc.)
  • Ability to discern and describe NERC Standards
  • Ability to understand and communication NERC Reliability Compliance concepts and their impact on Member and Customer compliance programs
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques used to analyze the impacts of NERC Compliance changes on Member portfolios
  • Ability to represent the department on a cross-functional ACES team
  • Demonstrated ability to complete short- to mid-duration projects and work assignments
  • Ability to deliver results to Clients on time at sufficient quality, on budget, and on time
  • Ability to perform reviews during NERC Compliance Engagements
  • Ability to understand and communication technical/operational impact on Members and Customers systems
