Job description

Senior Relationship Banker

The Senior Relationship Banker handles customer service, makes product recommendations, and manages relationships while meeting established goals. The role involves utilizing Newburyport Bank’s Service Excellence Standards and product knowledge to develop customer relationships through the following key functions:

Operational Effectiveness
  1. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all bank products, services, policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory and compliance issues.
  2. Strengthen relationships with new and existing customers by understanding their financial needs and referring them to appropriate departments or colleagues.
  3. Achieve and often surpass performance goals; participate actively in incentive programs and business development initiatives.
  4. Process transactions accurately, including deposits, loan payments, wire transfers, and maintaining necessary logs.
  5. Issue money orders and official checks, process coin, and order customer checks, ensuring proper fee assessment.
  6. Verify transactions, place holds as needed, and balance cash drawers to ensure compliance.
  7. Open new accounts and ancillary products, assist customers with inquiries, and ensure proper documentation.
  8. Assist with ATM issues and perform daily ATM balancing.
  9. Understand vault procedures, perform vault duties, oversee cash limits, and verify currency shipments.
  10. Maintain security by opening/closing the bank and vault, ensuring safety of the premises.
  11. Protect customer confidentiality and retain bank documents per policies.
  12. Mentor new Relationship Bankers until they achieve mastery.
  13. Assist with audit procedures as needed.
  14. Exercise discretion in transaction overrides.
  15. Supervise branch operations and open/close the bank in the absence of the Sales & Service Manager.
  16. Work effectively in a cross-trained environment.
Customer Focus
  1. Provide consistently superior and professional customer service.
  2. Participate in community activities to promote the bank’s image.
Education and Experience
  1. High school diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years of retail or customer service experience, preferably in banking or related roles.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet-based tools.
  3. Basic math skills, cash handling experience.
  4. Strong customer service skills, effective communication, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
  5. Teamwork and flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
