Job summary

Duke Energy seeks a Senior Counsel to join the Office of General Counsel and provide regulatory support across electric and natural gas matters. The role involves developing strategy, litigating before regulators, and coordinating with business teams and outside counsel.

The position emphasizes leadership in dynamic regulatory environments, managing filings, and driving advocacy from filing through hearings. Hybrid work and travel are expected.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience practicing law.
• Experience in regulatory, energy, administrative law, or litigation.
• Bar licensure in Duke Energy operating jurisdictions or the ability to obtain/licensure in additional jurisdictions as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support major electric and natural gas regulatory proceedings across jurisdictions.
• Develop hearing strategy and prepare witnesses for evidentiary hearings.
• Manage discovery, briefs, and filings before state and federal regulators.
• Coordinate with business owners on commitments, due dates, and reporting obligations.
• Direct outside counsel on scope, staffing, and billing.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise leadership on business impact.
