Job summary

The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department, Environmental Resources Division, is seeking a skilled Refuse Driver with strong driving, safety, operational, and customer service abilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating a variety of heavy commercial refuse and recycled collection vehicles, including automated side loaders, rear loaders, front end loaders, roll off trucks, transfer vehicles, container delivery trucks, and related solid waste equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy commercial refuse and recycling collection vehicles.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and OSHA/DOT guidelines.
• Ability to interact professionally with customers.
• Valid California driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate refuse, recycling, organics, transfer, roll off, front end loader, rear loader, side loader, container delivery, and related vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Perform residential, commercial, industrial, recycling, organics, bulky item, roll-off, and transfer collection and transport to disposal/transfer facilities.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report defects, safety hazards, accidents, or damages.
• Safely operate hydraulic systems, packers, automated arms, tarping systems, and related equipment.
• Navigate routes using route management software, GPS, cameras, tablets, radios to support service delivery.
• Collaborate with Supervisors, dispatch, mechanics, and customer service to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and service requests professionally.
• Position and return carts, bins, containers, and roll off boxes safely to avoid damage or hazards.
• Maintain vehicles and work areas in clean, safe condition; ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Provide coverage during staffing shortages, emergencies, or events and support Operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned in Environmental Resources Division operations.
