Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, payment posting, credit balance resolution, or insurance refund processing (preferred).
• Working knowledge of ERA/EOB, COB, and payer reimbursement guidelines.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and practice management software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret detailed financial transactions and accurately calculate refund amounts.

Responsibilities

• Review, research, and resolve credit balances on patient and insurance accounts to ensure accurate balances.
• Identify root causes of credit balances, including duplicate payments, overpayments, inappropriate adjustments, and posting errors.
• Analyze ERA/EOB, payment histories, and contract details to determine resolution and refund eligibility.
• Verify refunds after insurance adjudication and ensure correct recipient and amount.
• Maintain thorough documentation of research findings and actions in the PM/EHR system.
• Monitor refund requests and approvals to ensure timely completion; escalate complex cases as needed.
