Job summary

US Foods is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Systems Engineer to lead design, optimization, and lifecycle management of facility and operational systems across multiple distribution sites. You will provide expert support for infrastructure, automation, controls, and HVAC/mechanical systems while driving reliability and efficiency.

Leadership includes coordinating with Operations, Maintenance, IT, and external vendors; mentoring teams; and guiding capital projects from concept through startup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial refrigeration or cold chain engineering experience.
• Expertise with ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, HVAC/mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
• Experience managing multi-site operations and technical teams.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, PSM, IIAR, energy efficiency and automation.
• Experience with CMMS systems, maintenance planning, and capital project execution.
• This role requires approximately >40% travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, optimization, and lifecycle management of facility and operational systems for reliability and efficiency.
• Provide advanced technical expertise for infrastructure, automation, controls, mechanical, electrical systems.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, EHS, and vendors to drive improvements.
• Monitor performance, analyze trends, and develop solutions to boost uptime and capacity.
• Lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
• Develop engineering standards, procedures, and specifications for consistency and compliance.
• Support capital projects from concept to startup and commissioning.
• Evaluate modernization strategies and emerging technologies for goals.
• Ensure safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards compliance.
• Partner with leadership on long-range infrastructure and capital planning.
• Mentor engineering and maintenance teams; provide guidance and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate external contractors and vendors for quality and cost effectiveness.
• Serve as first-line escalation 24/7 between field sites and HQ.
• Assist project prioritization, budgeting, vendor selection, and handoff activities.
• Assess energy reduction opportunities and refrigeration tech advances.
