Job summary

Perplexity is seeking a highly skilled Offensive Security Engineer to join our security team. You will plan and execute red team operations, penetration tests, and attack simulations across our cloud infrastructure, web and mobile apps, AI/ML pipelines, and corporate environment.

You will collaborate with engineering to drive remediation, develop custom tooling, and stay ahead of evolving threats, focusing on practical risk reduction and robust security postures.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on offensive security experience.
• Expertise in at least two areas: cloud security, web/API security, Kubernetes and container security, macOS/Linux endpoints, network, or CI/CD security.
• Track record of discovering impactful vulnerabilities in production environments.
• Strong programming/scripting skills in Python or Go; ability to write custom tooling.
• Experience with standard offensive tools (Burp Suite, Cobalt Strike/Sliver/Mythic, Metasploit, BloodHound, nuclei).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate findings into risk narratives.
• Experience assessing AI/ML systems or agent workflows for security vulnerabilities.
• Bonus: published research or notable bug bounty contributions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute red team and purple team engagements across cloud, endpoints, and applications.
• Conduct ongoing penetration testing of web apps, APIs, mobile clients, and cloud infrastructure.
• Assess AI/ML attack surfaces including prompts, model exfiltration, and agent abuse.
• Develop and maintain offensive tooling, exploits, and automation for security testing.
• Perform open-scope adversary simulations to test detection and response end-to-end.
• Drive threat modeling sessions with engineering to identify attack vectors.
• Deliver actionable findings to technical and executive audiences; validate remediations with engineers.
• Contribute to CI/CD security, supply chain integrity, and secrets management.
• Stay current on emerging attack techniques and adversary tradecraft.
