Job summary

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Systems Engineer with deep Linux expertise to update, expand and maintain our Red Hat Linux enterprise. Windows experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate will design, deploy, secure and tune Linux-based systems, coordinate with IT staff, and ensure system availability and performance in a sensitive national programs environment. A TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain one is preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience in related field.
• Six years minimum experience in IT, including at least four years in Red Hat Linux systems administration.
• Advanced knowledge in designing, administering, and supporting Linux servers, systems, and software.
• Experience with VMware, NetApp, or Windows a plus.
• Experience with LDAP/Red Identity Management and patch management systems.
• Programming in Perl or Python.

Responsibilities

• Implements IT technology initiatives with hands-on technical deployments.
• Develops resolutions to complex problems and coordinates resources to resolve issues.
• Mentors junior staff on projects and transitions operational support of new deployments.
• Researches and develops integration plans for new technologies to ensure compatibility.
• Builds new physical and virtual servers to design specifications.
• Ensures systems meet business and security requirements per government directives and guidelines.
• Prepares technical documentation including SOPs and processes.
• Administers and maintains classified and unclassified systems to ensure optimum performance and availability.
• Keeps abreast of IT industry trends and communicates issues promptly.
