Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Rear Seat Structure Design Release Engineer to own rear seat structures from concept to production. You will define system requirements, lead design and integration, and drive robust execution with high independent judgment and leadership.

You will partner with safety, CAE, manufacturing, durability, and NVH teams to develop SORs, review designs, and release production-ready components across programs. Travel up to 15% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or closely related).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in product development, preferably structural components or seating systems.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret 3D math data and review designs using tools such as Vis-Mock-up or equivalent.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and mechanics; connect system-level performance to component design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and integration of rear seat structures for large-scope vehicle programs.
• Own and develop SORs for rear seat subsystems, partnering with safety, CAE, manufacturing, durability, NVH, and other teams.
• Lead design reviews for rear seat structures and subsystems to ensure robustness and safety; align to program targets.
• Define and maintain ICDs for interfaces; negotiate interface agreements and resolve conflicts.
• Lead PDT for assigned components, including timing, parts lists, DFMA considerations, and risk mitigation.
• Conduct trade-off studies and recommend directions based on cost, mass, timing, manufacturability, safety, and quality.
• Release production designs on time, meeting regulatory and quality requirements.
• Conduct engineering reviews to ensure 100% design fidelity and readiness at GVDP milestones.
• Act as primary technical interface to internal and external teams; communicate clearly.
• Lead launch of rear seat structure subsystems for new programs at plants and suppliers; manage changes.
