Job summary

QuantumScape Battery, Inc. in San Jose is seeking a Firmware/Embedded Engineer to implement real-time control loops for a bidirectional power shelf integrating PSU and BBU for hyperscale AI data centers.

You will develop PMBus/Redfish telemetry, fault protection, and carry through hardware-in-the-loop validation, bench bringup, and prototype testing, working closely with the power electronics lead to shape the product's technical spine.

Qualifications

• 8+ years writing real-time firmware for power converters.
• Strong experience with TI C2000 or Microchip dsPIC.
• Deep understanding of digital compensator design and control loops.
• Hands-on PWM generation and ADC synchronization.
• Experience with PMBus or I2C-based power management protocols.
• Track record with at least one power converter through prototype bringup.
• Fluent in C for bare-metal and RTOS; fixed-point math proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Implement digital compensators for voltage and current regulation loops at 50-200kHz.
• Design and implement bidirectional power flow state machine with fast transitions.
• Integrate battery charge algorithms with collaboration from battery systems engineer.
• Implement PMBus commands for host communication and telemetry.
• Develop Redfish/IPMI telemetry reporting for fleet management.
• Design fault detection and protection logic with rapid trip paths.
• Build power sequencing and hot-swap control under live conditions.
• Develop diagnostics, event logging, and field debug capabilities.
• Validate algorithms using hardware-in-the-loop before prototype hardware.
• Support bench bringup and prototype testing alongside the power electronics lead.
