Job summary

TerraPower in Bellevue, Washington, seeks a Senior Reactor Operator Candidate to join our advanced nuclear program in Kemmerer, Wyoming. The role supports licensing class and the development of procedures and training to improve safe, efficient operations.

The SRO candidate will implement programs, engage regulators and industry partners, and ensure NRC compliance while contributing to plant design reviews and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Senior Reactor Operator license preferred or may accept Reactor Operator license or SRO Certification.
  • 3 years commercial nuclear power plant operator experience.
  • 5 years' experience working at a commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or engineering required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in training to obtain an SRO license for the Natrium plant.
  • Provide assistance, feedback and support to other class members to ensure a successful training program.
  • Use independent judgment while coordinating with other departments for cross-discipline procedure development, design reviews, and training development.
  • Develop, implement, and use smart procedures or software-based tools to develop electronic procedures.
  • Complete 10CFR50.59 and 10CFR72.48 reviews, as applicable.
  • Leverage industry knowledge to integrate cross-trained resources in procedures, training, and design reviews to improve efficiency.
  • Engage with external industry peers, 3rd party vendors, ASME, NEI, EPRI, and others to develop methods and technologies for procedures and training.
  • Use independent judgment to ensure compliance with NRC regulations and company standards.
  • Develop knowledge of plant design, operations, and skills for procedures and design reviews.
  • Support Plant Operations Leadership in budgeting and department goals.
  • Drive crew performance through observations and debriefs; create performance strategies.
  • Perform other tasks to support meeting site procedure development schedules.

Senior Reactor Operator Candidate

The Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) candidate reports directly to the Senior Manager, Operations and will initially attend license class to obtain a license for Kemmerer Unit 1 (KU1). The SRO Candidate will also provide project support by informing and contributing to build plant knowledge to improve management and operation success. The SRO candidate will provide high level insights and contributions and will be responsible for developing and implementing procedures for program development, training program development, and plant design reviews for operations. The successful SRO candidate will proactively integrate and coordinate with other departments, project partners, regulators, and outside organizations working on the needs of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in training to obtain an SRO license for the Natrium plant.
  • Provide assistance, feedback and support to other members of the class to ensure a successful training program.
  • Use independent judgment while proactively coordinating, with minimal oversight, with other departments for cross-discipline procedure development, design reviews, and training development.
  • Develop, implement, and use smart procedures or other software-based support tools to develop electronic procedures.
  • Complete 10CFR50.59 and 10CFR72.48 reviews, as applicable.
  • Leverage deep industry experience and knowledge to consider and integrate use of cross-trained resources in procedure development, training development, and design reviews to improve organizational efficiency.
  • Engage with external industry peers, 3rd party vendors, ASME, NEI, EPRI, and other organizations to find and develop innovative methods and technologies for the development of procedures, training, and the design of the plant.
  • Use independent judgement and discretion to ensure administrative and process implementation procedures comply with company standards, NRC regulations, INPO accreditation criteria, and other codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of plant design, plant operations, and discipline‑specific skills and techniques commensurate with the responsibility to develop procedures and training and perform effective design reviews.
  • Support Plant Operations Leadership in establishing department goals and cost estimates that result in budgeted activities for the assigned area including specific project or subject matter areas as assigned.
  • Drive crew performance improvement through observations, feedback, debriefs during on shift and training activities. Create crew performance strategies and plans.
  • Although primary focus may be associated with discipline‑specific processes and procedures, perform other assigned tasks that support meeting site procedure development schedules.
Discipline‑Specific Education and Experience
  • Senior Reactor Operator license preferred. May accept Reactor Operator license or SRO Certification.
  • 3 years commercial nuclear power plant operator experience.
  • 5 years' experience working at a commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Bachelors Degree in science or engineering required.
Key Qualifications and Skills
  • High level of knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and terminology.
  • Experience with interpreting relevant nuclear information and standards in strict procedural and regulatory compliance.

Job details

Salary Range: $122,518 - $195,711

  • We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications experience. This range is specific to Wyoming State.
