Job summary

Job description

ReNuke is seeking an experienced Senior Radiological Control Technician (Sr. RCT) to support Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D) operations at multiple sites throughout the US. The Sr. RCT will be responsible for conducting field job coverage, performing and documenting radiological surveys, and supporting D&D activities with a focus on worker safety, regulatory compliance, and accurate technical data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide job coverage for the D&D team, ensuring adherence to all radiological safety procedures during field demolition and decontamination work.
  • Perform radiological surveys including contamination, dose rate, airborne, and removable sampling in accordance with approved procedures and work packages.
  • Evaluate and interpret survey results and assist in establishing radiological boundaries for D&D activities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain required documentation such as Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), COC/RFA forms, survey maps, and decontamination logs.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to input, organize, and analyze survey data — including embedding image documentation and copying worksheets while maintaining formula integrity.
  • Import images and scanned survey documents from Word/PDF into Excel logs as required for reporting and visual tracking.
  • Support environmental sample tracking using spreadsheet-based or electronic logging tools (e.g., LIMS).
  • Mentor and direct junior RCTs or health physics technicians; may act as lead on shift or assigned work package.
  • Maintain and calibrate radiological instruments used in field monitoring.
  • Provide input into lessons learned, procedural updates, and job planning documents.
  • Serve as Alternate Project RSO as needed to support continuity of program oversight.
  • Participate in radiological incident response planning and corrective action implementation.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in radiological control
  • Demonstrated experience supporting D&D operations including field job coverage, survey planning, and hazard control.
  • Strong understanding of radiological principles, isotopes (alpha, beta/gamma, neutron), and exposure mitigation techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:
    • Accurate and organized data entry
    • Embedding images from Word or PDF for documentation purposes
    • Copying worksheet tabs while maintaining formatting and preserving cell formulas and references
  • Familiarity with radiological data management systems such as LIMS, RFA/COC logging, and digital survey logs.
  • Ability to work in Level B and SCBA/PAPR environments; Level A training preferred.
  • Capable of performing duties in High Radiation, High Contamination, and Airborne Radioactivity Areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface with health physics, safety, and operations personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work history supporting DOE or NRC-regulated nuclear decommissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of sample packaging, manifesting, and shipment of radioactive waste.
