Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Rail & Track Engineer to join our growing team in the United States. The candidate should hold a PE license and have extensive Class I railroad track design experience. Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads and AREMA knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required
  • 8+ years of Class I railroad track design experience are required
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license is required
  • Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads is required
  • Knowledge of AREMA design codes is a plus
  • Ability to ensure designs comply with company and client standards and to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Perform engineering calculations and create estimates for rail projects
  • Research and apply code provisions to design and ensure compliance
  • Create cost estimates for project alternatives and evaluate options
  • Conduct QA/QC by verifying design methodology and calculations
  • Lead technical design on rail projects and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Develop work plans for track designs and coordinate with project staff
  • Assist in developing narratives, scopes, and fees for pursuits
  • Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines for railway projects
  • Create 3D models for design review and client presentations

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Rail & Track Engineer to join our growing team! We are actively seeking candidates within a commutable distance to any of our Colliers Engineering & Design office locations!

Our rail and transit systems efficiently connect people and freight throughout the country. Our rail engineers possess a broad range of experience from inside the rail industry and bring a clear understanding of the unique nature of railroad projects. We offer a full range of rail services to Class 1, short line, transit agencies, as well as Department of Transportation and other rail clients. Our professionals provide services for rail freight, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail, and industrial installations. Our expertise ranges from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design, construction inspection and operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering calculations and create estimates.
  • Research and apply code provisions to design.
  • Create cost estimates for project alternatives.
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures and make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
  • Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects.
  • Create 3D models.
  • Research design options and document findings for project manager.
  • Submit concept designs and work through the approval processes.
  • Lead the technical design and assigned staff on rail projects while developing work plans for various track designs and coordinate with disciplines
  • Assist in the development of technical narratives, scope and fee for project pursuits.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • 8+ years of Class I railroad track design experience required.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license required.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads required.
  • Knowledge of AREMA design codes a plus.
  • Ability to ensure designs are in accordance with company and client production and design standards.
  • A team player and be able to work independently.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
