Job summary

The Senior Engineer at Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) plans, coordinates, and directs engineering work for rail transit projects, including design, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role drives technical leadership for complex infrastructure and rail systems.

Assigned to the Silver Line Light Rail and other projects, the position emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external agencies to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery and high-quality engineering

Qualifications

Senior engineer plans, organizes, reviews and directs engineering work
Provides advanced technical expertise for rail transit projects
Collaborates with internal divisions and external agencies to meet design criteria

Responsibilities

Oversee engineering activities for light rail infrastructure, systems, and facilities
Review consultant and contractor submissions, drawings and calculations
Ensure compliance with FTA CIG requirements and design criteria
Coordinate design submittals, bid documents and comment resolution
Develop and maintain required project documentation and plans
Engage with municipal agencies, utility companies and stakeholders
Provide guidance to ensure constructability and lifecycle value
Respond to development inquiries along the Silver Line corridor
Participate in procurement activities and contractor oversight
