Job summary

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) seeks a collaborative Senior Systems Engineer with strong experience in electrified rail systems and a passion for improving safety, reliability, and performance of the Light Rail System. Based at the Light Rail Maintenance Yard, this role provides advanced engineering support across rail system assets and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Professional engineering experience on electrified rail systems.
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to supervise and lead systems engineering functions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct electrified rail engineering work performed by staff and consultants.
• Provide technical assistance in systems engineering to rail operating managers.
• Lead and support projects involving vehicles, track, overhead electrification, traction power, signals, and fare systems.
• Monitor asset health using system data and field insights to identify improvements and drive reliability.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams, contractors, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders.
