Base pay range

$62.72/hr - $75.00/hr

Position Summary

The Senior Radiation Therapist will function in a supervisory and direct patient care role. This position will be responsible for assisting the Lead Therapists, Assistant Chief Radiation Therapist and Chief Radiation Therapist in the management of daily operations for New York Proton Center radiation therapy services.

Duties And Responsibilities

In accordance with the strategic operational plan of the New York Proton Center, the Senior Radiation Therapist will promote and implement programming that facilitates organizational growth by performing the following functions:

  • Treatment Unit Supervision: Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the assigned treatment unit to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Conducts themselves as professional role models. Oversees the training of new staff on treatment machines and serves as mentors throughout the onboarding process.
  • Ensure all immobilization devices and equipment are appropriately accounted for and ready for use.
  • Disseminate policies, procedures, workflow updates, and leadership communications to staff therapists, ensuring their understanding and compliance.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to staff and Lead Therapists regarding staff therapist performance.
  • Organize and coordinate the treatment unit schedule, communicate with patients to address scheduling preferences, and collaborate with Lead Therapists to maintain appointment accuracy and manage adjustments.
  • Work with Lead Therapists to implement downtime response procedures, keeping patients informed with routine updates.
  • Oversee the completion of chart checks, ensuring equitable distribution among staff therapists and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Lead Therapists to confirm adequate staffing levels for the upcoming week.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Lead Therapists to review workflow, staffing competency, coverage, and other relevant updates.
  • Facilitates open communication between Staff Therapists by bringing any concerns to the Lead Therapist and helping to mediate resolutions.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Radiation Therapist, Assistant Chief Radiation Therapist, and Lead Therapist to facilitate daily clinical activities.
  • Maintains an optimistic and composed attitude, contributing to a positive and supportive environment in the clinic.
  • Ensures accurate and precise treatment delivery and data capture.
  • Reviews all set-up instructions, radiation prescriptions, consents, treatment plan, and any other documentation related to treatment delivery.
  • Explains treatment process to the patient in a clear and concise manner that promotes understanding.
  • Performs required quality assurance procedures and documents accordingly.
  • Oversees the administration of safe and accurate radiation therapy treatments to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Coordinates new patient set ups.
  • Provides technical guidance to staff to ensure that problems are resolved.
  • Explains and demonstrates required technical procedures to staff, provides technical guidance as needed. Refers to the appropriate resources and operations manual.
  • Monitors staff performance to ensure the accuracy and completion of responsibilities and adherence to departmental standards and guidelines.
  • Keeps patients wait times to the minimum and informs patient of any delays.
  • Demonstrates practice-related learning and share knowledge and skills with others.
  • Promotes adherence to documented policies and procedures.
  • Efficiently maintain clinical supply levels.
  • Identifies clinical environmental needs and demonstrates the appropriate follow-up action to address them.
  • Identifies challenges and opportunities for change or improvement.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Encourages collaboration and input from all team members, valuing the contributions of others.
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned
  • Complies with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Education

Qualifications:

Graduate of a JCERT accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent, required.

BS Degree in Radiation Therapy or a related health science field, preferred.

License And Certification

Certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiation therapy, required.

Licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a radiologic technologist, required.

Certification in Basic Life Support/ CPR, required.

Experience

At least 2 years of experience as a radiation therapist with comprehensive clinical knowledge that includes treatment delivery, required.

Simulation Experience, Preferred.

Previous experience in proton radiation therapy, preferred.

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
