Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Radar Processing Group. You will develop and refine radar processing pipelines, maintain production services, and contribute to the overall mission of Umbra’s data and systems capabilities.

This role supports multiple US locations including Santa Barbara/Goleta, CA; Arlington, VA; or Reston, VA. You will work on MTI, Passive RF, and SAR algorithms, build robust software with tests, and collaborate across engineering and product teams while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in STEM fields.
• 5+ years of professional experience in signal or image processing.
• 5–8+ years of professional experience with MATLAB or Python.
• Experience with Git and version control.
• Foundational understanding of software architecture, event-driven micro-services, interfaces and automated testing patterns.
• Experience with relational databases and parallel processing/HPC.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve radar algorithms including MTI, Passive RF, and SAR.
• Produce production-quality software with unit and integration tests.
• Support modeling, simulation, mission design, and systems analyses for current and future architecture.
• Monitor, evaluate and improve production throughput for cost and timeliness efficiency.
• Build, test, and maintain applications that run satellites and automate spacecraft operations and data pipelines.
• Provide software architecture expertise to cross-functional engineering and product teams.
• Help establish DevOps practices to meet customer and satellite-operational needs with quality and performance.
