Job summary

Stealth Startup in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer to own the physical architecture of our V0 and V1 machines, joining the founding team of a deep-tech hardware company. This role requires a hands-on, autonomous engineer capable of driving complex mechanical designs from ideation to production.

You will design integrated electromechanical systems using SolidWorks, apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T, and champion manufacturability as we move from prototype to production.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience designing integrated electromechanical systems.
• Expertise with 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and technical drafting (ASME Y14.5), including GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Hands-on mindset with high autonomy and ability to prototype in a machine shop.
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working at early-stage companies and willingness to wear multiple hats.

Responsibilities

• Precision Machine Design: apply kinematic principles to design critical structural and motion systems.
• DFM / DFA: design parts and assemblies for manufacturability as we scale to production.
• Thermal & Fluids Engineering: architect thermal systems and gas flow with safe, reliable diagrams.
• Engineering Analysis: model systems, run experiments, and select components, materials, and tolerances.
• Hands-on Testing: prototype, assemble, and test in-house, iterating quickly on results.
