Job summary

The Senior Manager of R&D in Abbott Vascular’s New Brighton location leads a broad, dynamic team responsible for product development strategy and execution. You will mentor engineers, set clear goals, and drive innovation to keep Abbott Vascular at the forefront of the market.

You will collaborate across disciplines, manage budgets, and guide complex projects from ideation through lifecycle management, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of supervisory/managerial experience in a high- tech environment.
• Experience with medical device design and product lifecycle management over multiple releases, including catheters and electro-mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of global regulatory requirements for medical devices and risk/reliability concepts.
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Hire, coach, and develop R&D staff with focus on growth and performance.
• Oversee staff performance and accountability; manage subcontractors as needed.
• Lead innovation and lifecycle management across current and future products.
• Collaborate with marketing, regulatory, clinical, quality, and operations teams.
• Present to senior management and drive resource planning within timelines and budgets.
