Job summary

SGS Consulting in Boston is seeking a chemistry researcher to scale polymer synthesis from gram to hundreds of grams and to prepare simple monomers using standard organic chemistry techniques.

You will characterize products with GPC, MALDI, HPLC, MS, UV/Vis, NMR and document experiments for technology transfer packages, while following lead chemists’ protocols and site safety rules. BS or MS in Chemistry; PhD candidates will not be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry; no PhD candidates.
• Experience with general laboratory techniques.
• Experience with analytical characterization methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct synthesis of polymers from laboratory gram-scale up to several hundred grams
• Synthesize simple small molecule monomers using standard organic chemistry techniques
• Use analytical tests to characterize products and ensure final product quality
• Document experiments and help in the preparation of technology transfer packages
• Follow written and verbal protocols from lead chemists and contribute to process improvements
• Maintain full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality regulations, systems, and procedures covering laboratory and scale-up activities
• Perform routine lab and business unit maintenance to keep area clean and orderly
• Maintain material database, inventory database and order chemical reagents from suppliers
