Job summary

American Refining Group, Inc. is seeking a Sr. R&D Chemist in Bradford, PA to design and advance new products, perform method development, and manage analytical instrumentation benchmarks in both R&D and QC laboratories.

The role requires advanced chemistry degrees with significant analytical experience, proficiency in SPC and DOE, and the ability to communicate results to senior management. The company emphasizes safety, wellness, and employee ownership through ESOP and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• MS in Chemistry or BS in Chemistry plus 5 years related experience or equivalent.
• Proficient in SPC, analytical instrumental analysis, method development, statistics and/or advanced training in continuous improvement methodology.
• Strong Computer and Electronics skills, Design of Experiments, Statistics, Method Development, Validation and Documentation.

Responsibilities

• Designs new products and technology with creative problem solving and management input.
• Performs method development and routine analytical analysis using UV-Vis, FTIR, HPLC, GC, ED-XRF, and ICP-OES.
• Maintains instrumentation and calibration/verification of analytical methods.
• Supports instrumentation maintenance in R&D and QC labs.
• Develops and conducts Gage R&R of analytical procedures in R&D and QC.
• Interfaces with commercial team members and customers as needed.
• Delivers formal presentations of technical projects to senior management.
• Performs atmospheric and vacuum distillation work to support crude assays.
• Learns pilot plant operations and bench tests simulating refinery processes.
• Keeps current with new analytical technologies and attends industry meetings.
• Assists Refinery Process Engineers in establishing online instrumentation.
• Develops SOPs and trains staff on SOPs.
• Performs product and tech development with oversight; may lead junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/management.
