Job summary

Atom Computing in Berkeley, CA seeks a Senior Quantum Theorist to lead theoretical and computational efforts for neutral atom quantum computers. You will work with theorists and experimentalists to model systems, improve calibrations, and inform device design.

You will mentor junior researchers and shape technical direction, contributing across the AMO Theory, Quantum Engineering, and QEC teams. Expect to write clean, documented code and explore AI-powered methods.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field with a strong publication record.
• At least 4 years of post-PhD research or quantum industry experience.
• Deep knowledge of atomic, molecular and optical physics; Rydberg atoms experience is valued.
• Proven leadership with ability to mentor junior theorists.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across theorists and experimentalists.

Responsibilities

• Lead theoretical and computational projects advancing neutral atom quantum computers.
• Develop atomic physics simulations and translate into robust software solutions.
• Propose new research directions and AI-assisted approaches to accelerate work.
• Collaborate with Quantum Engineering, QEC Theory, and AMO Theory teams to model results.
• Mentor junior AMO Theorists and promote best practices in coding and research.
• Write clean, well-tested code in Python, Julia, or C++.
