Job summary

Atom Computing is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to design and operate the systems powering our quantum computing workflows. You will build infrastructure spanning on-prem lab environments and cloud platforms, shaping reliability, security, scalability, and cost.

The role requires 7+ years of post-degree experience in infrastructure or systems engineering, and hands-on expertise with Terraform, Kubernetes, and cloud providers. Office presence in Boulder, CO is required three days per week.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 7+ years of post-degree experience in infrastructure/platform/systems engineering.
• Experience with IaC tooling and hybrid on-prem/cloud environments.
• Experience with security standards such as NIST 800-53 or SOC 2.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain classical compute infrastructure supporting quantum control systems.
• Collaborate with software, control systems, and physics teams to meet workload needs.
• Own infrastructure-as-code, deployment automation, and observability across on‑prem lab and cloud.
• Establish and enforce security, access control, and compliance standards.
• Participate in on-call rotation and drive incident response and reliability improvements.
• Evaluate and integrate new infrastructure tooling, balancing build-vs-buy decisions.
