Job summary

Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to lead chip-integrated quantum memory development based on Er3+ in Er:TFLN.

You will drive the experiment from cryogenic memory characterization to integration with PICs and quantum-network systems. The role requires hands-on experience in solid-state quantum photonics, cryogenic measurements, and on-chip memory protocols, reporting results and collaborating across photonic IC teams.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experimental research in quantum optics, AMO physics, or solid-state quantum photonics beyond the Ph.D.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize the light–matter interface between Er3+ ion ensembles and TFLN photonic structures for high-efficiency, low-noise photon storage and retrieval.
• Implement and benchmark on-chip quantum memory protocols (e.g., AFC, spin-wave storage, EIT) and characterize storage efficiency, fidelity, and coherence times.
• Assemble and run cryogenic experiments to measure spectral, hyperfine, and coherence properties of Er ions in TFLN, including bias fields.
• Collaborate with photonic IC design and fabrication teams to co-design memory-compatible waveguides, resonators, and tuning elements.
• Model and simulate device performance using tools like Lumerical, COMSOL, or Python/MATLAB and reconcile with measurements.
• Integrate memory modules with QCi's QKD and quantum-networking hardware for system-level validation from prototype to deployment.
• Document methodologies and results; contribute to publications and patents; mentor junior scientists and engineers.
• Represent QCi's memory work with partners and at technical conferences.
